MRC PONTIAC Feb. 15, 2017
The MRC has noticed that some residents, many of whom are on a fixed income, have struggled to pay their property taxes on time.
It’s a situation that isn’t unique to the MRC, as several MRC’s and municipalities have seen the same trend crop up in their jurisdiction.
“We see there’s a trend,” said Warden Raymond Durocher. “People are a little bit late to pay their taxes.”
“Lots of municipalities have elderly people and their pensions are not going up,” Durocher said, adding that the economic situation in the Pontiac doesn’t help matters.
Durocher emphasized that it’s not a matter of taxes going up the point that residents can no longer afford to pay them.
