Mae McCann, former owner of McCann’s Chips, backs out of her laneway in Quyon to go for a drive with her dog Lily. This season will be her fifth year off the job since selling the business to Chuck Huckabone.

Aromas of meatballs, baked beans and scalloped potatoes escaped through the back door of the McCann home as one of the first warm April days came to a close. However, newspapers still covered the windows of the renowned McCann’s Chips stand, a sign that summer was still a ways away.
Inside the back porch of the house, a cherry cheesecake sat by itself on the freezer. Inside the kitchen, the counters were spotless, providing no evidence that any food had been cooked there at all.
