The 11th edition of the Dr. S.E. McDowell Elementary School Spring Fair was held last Thursday.
Admission to the fair was free but attendees could buy tickets for $5 each which got them access to five of the various activities to choose from.
The fair included the Shawville Lions Club volunteering their time to barbecue, the Shawville-Clarendon Fire Department showing off its fire trucks, the Maison des Jeunes bringing out bouncy castles and games, Echo the Clown making balloon animals, the Shawville 4-H club putting on a petting zoo and the staff of McDowell hosting a number of activities for the kids to enjoy.
The fair was also the culmination of a fundraising spring fair auction, which happens in the 10 days leading up to the fair. Bids were made on the McDowell spring auction 2023 Facebook group and people could pick up what they won at the auction.
“This year, thanks to the wonderful support of our community, we raised over $9,000 between both endeavours,” said the President of the McDowell Home and School Committee, Meagan Hobbs. “Right now the McDowell Home and School Committee is working towards funding some larger scale projects such as storage for outdoor toys and games, equipment for outdoor classroom spaces, updating outdoor play spaces, maintenance of our track and field areas and revitalizing the hallways and classrooms.”
Hobbs said the group is always looking for help, and if you are interested you can contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
