With the municipal elections fast approaching on Nov. 5, the deadline for filing nomination papers passed last Friday, Oct. 6. Over 200 people put their names forward to seek municipal office in MRC Pontiac, all competing for 125 possible seats.
In a change from previous elections, all electors in the MRC can now vote for the position of warden, which was previously elected from among the council of mayors. Incumbent Warden and former Mayor of Fort Coulonge, Raymond Durocher, will face off against four other candidates: Linda Davis, Pierre Fréchette, Charlotte L’Écuyer and Jane Toller.
