Bringing the fair to them

The Friends of St-Joseph’s Manor retirement community held its fourth annual Fair Day event this past Friday in Campbell’s Bay.
Members of the Shawville 4-H Club brought the thrills of a county fair right to the doorstep of the St-Joseph’s Manor for residents to enjoy, including their livestock and some of the projects they have been working on throughout the year .
4-H chickens, goats, rabbits and cows all made an appearance at the event, with fair-style cuisine of onion rings, fries, popcorn and cotton-candy helping to round out an authentic fair experience.
Event organizer and St-Joseph’s Manor employee Charleen Moore explained that the event was a way to provide an accessible fair experience to residents, many of whom were avid fairgoers at one time.
“We decided to do this four years ago because the majority of our residents were past fair goers and exhibitors. We wanted them to still be able to experience fun they would have had at the fair,” Moore said.
“We would like to thank the Shawville 4-H Club and the volunteers for coming and making this day so remarkable for the residents,” she added.

Friends of St-Joseph’s Manor residents and staff were joined by the Shawville 4-H Club for a day of festive fair-themed fun.
