Cancelled: Shawville Fair a COVID victim

CALEB NICKERSON
SHAWVILLE April 10, 2020
On Friday, the Pontiac Agricultural Society (PAS) announced that the Shawville Fair would be cancelled this year, due to public health concerns about COVID-19. This would have been the fair’s 164th anniversary, and it’s the first time the annual event has ever been cancelled completely.
The decision comes on the heels of an announcement by the MAPAQ, which cancelled all agricultural events for the year, including fairs, youth competitions and other large gatherings.
PAS President Charleen Moore stated in a press release that the decision to cancel was “not done lightly” and was done to protect all potential vendors, exhibitors and attendees.
“We prefer to see everyone safe for our 2021 Shawville Fair,” she added.
