Equity staff nominated for awards

The newsroom at THE EQUITY was nominated for several awards in the annual Quebec Community Newspaper Association (QCNA)’s Better Newspapers competition.
All three EQUITY staff at the time (Caleb Nickerson, J.D. Potié and Chris Lowrey) got a nod in both the Best News Story and Best Environmental Story category for their coverage of the flooding in our April 24, 2019 edition.
Nickerson, THE EQUITY’s editor, is also up for Best Municipal/Civic Affairs Story for his story “Health care workers speak out about short-staffing” (July 17, pg. 2), along with Potié’s story about a record number of power outages in the upper Pontiac (Aug. 7, front).
Lowrey has been nominated for Best Editorial, local affairs for his piece “We tallked about this…” regarding reactions to the Shawville Abattoir (Jan. 23, pg. 4).
Nickerson is also up for Best Feature Photo for his picture of the community vigil for Véronique Bourque, a local teen killed in a car accident (Oct. 9, front).
THE EQUITY was also nominated in the Best Editorial Page and Best Feature Page categories, (Feb. 20 and Sept. 11 respectively).
