The Way We Were:

Local News: Shawville was fairly well represented at the play, box social, etc., given by the young folk of Murrells at Portage du Fort on Friday night last.

Owing to the continued cold, raw weather, there is very little sign of vegetation in either field or woodland; a late spring with bare, dry ground on April 20.

The power plant of the Ottawa River Power Co. was placed in operation on Monday of last week.

Ten years ago there were less than 85,000 automobiles in use in Canada. Last year there were 639,114. By the end of 1925, the number will undoubtedly exceed 700,000.

A pile of some 17 tons of coal that occupied a corner of the Pontiac House basement when the hotel was destroyed by fire on Dec. 9, was noticed to be still smouldering last week – four months after the unfortunate occurrence which robbed the village of its only hotel.
