The volunteer-based organization Ski Pontiac is moving to a new location. On Jan. 21 Ski Pontiac announced their collaboration with Astra Estates to develop a series of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails along the scenic grounds of the golf course.
Astra Estates is run by husband and wife duo John Edelman and Jodi Armstrong, who most recently opened up their golf course and restaurant. They are located at 3 Second Line Rd. in Bristol and parking is free on the premises.
Astra Estates makes for a great location because skiers and snowshoers can enjoy a snack, warm up in their convenience store or have dinner at their restaurant, mentioned Ariane Cloutier, president of Ski Pontiac.
“Astra Estates is delighted to be partnering with Ski Pontiac to offer a beautiful natural backdrop for the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing community,” said Jodi Armstrong, Astra Estates co-owner.
“This historic golf course and driving range will now become a year-round playground for locals and tourists alike,” said Armstrong.
Cloutier is thrilled with this new collaboration and mentioned they have been working diligently to continue to serve the community as they have since 2011.
“It provides us with a brand new place. They have several kilometres of trails that we’re going to be able to groom and we’ll also be able to offer snowshoe trails,” said Cloutier.
Community members can still expect their famous moonlight walks and snowshoe events, with dates to be announced later in the month. With the winter season being really short, Cloutier is hoping the word spreads about their new location so people can come and enjoy the trails before the spring. “So I really want to let people know that yes we’re still here, we are a strong organization, and yes we are still going to be able to provide trails for the community free of charge,” she said.
“I really want to thank the people of Bristol for their strong community support,” she said.
Ski Pontiac invites community members to attend its upcoming AGM on Saturday, February 25, at 10 a.m., at Astra Estates.
