Quyon - Jillian Young

Happy Valentine’s Day to all. While it isn’t my favourite day of the year, I do hope everyone enjoys some treats and that you are all spoiled by the loves in your life. I also hope the takeout BBQ chicken dinner that the Quyon Legion is hosting for Valentine’s Day is a huge success. What a delicious way to celebrate while also supporting the Legion.
Our condolences to the family of Grace (Mohr) Vuori, as she passed away on Jan. 31 in her 100th year. Thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones at this sad time.
Congratulations to Kenzie Smith, as she continues to achieve great things in her figure skating competitions. This past Saturday, Kenzie won the silver medal at the 34e Invitation Masson-Angers. After a tough week of illness and the stress of exams, it was a well-deserved reward for battling through to make it to her competition. It was also nice for her to have Bonnie Fraser and Molly Dowe there to cheer her on, as well as her grandparents Ken and Diane Stanton. Way to go Kenzie.
On Saturday evening, Gavan’s Hotel was the place to be, as The Young Bucks took the stage to entertain the crowd. It was their first time playing at Gavan’s, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. It was so much fun to see our local talented musicians Randy Frobel and Rory Mayhew perform again. Already looking forward to the next time The Young Bucks are in town.
Belated birthday wishes are going out to Sarah Davis, as she celebrated on Feb. 7, to Marie-Eve Provost on the 8th, to Kane Flemming on the 9th, to Elaine Woermke as she turned 6 on the 11th, to Barb Atwell on the 12th, and to Kira Stanley and Cecile Dumont on the 13th. Happy birthday to Brian Young, celebrating on Feb. 14, to Megan Alexander on the 18th, and to Finnley & Raelynn Hobbs on the 20th. Best wishes to all who are marking special occasions this week.
On Sunday evening, our family had a little Super Bowl party at my mom’s, as we enjoyed snacks and watching the game. I must admit, I usually only tune in for the halftime show, but this year I was all in on the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a great night to be Chiefs fan and we had a lot of fun.

Shawville - Lyse Lacourse

Our deepest condolences to the Bowie family in the loss of Brent on Jan. 24. Brent was the husband of Guylaine and was the father of Crystal and Kelsey (Curtis).
Congratulations to the Municipality of Shawville who hosted the Shawville Winter Carnival last Saturday. Thank you to all the volunteers and participants. A good time was had by all.
Happy belated 60th birthday to Polly Pitt Dagenais who celebrated on Feb. 10.
Happy birthday to Terry-Lyn Hodgins who celebrated her birthday on Feb. 12.
Tuesday, Feb. 13 was Shrive Tuesday or Mardi Gras and today Feb. 14 is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.
This year Lent takes place from Feb. 14 to March 28 which is Holy Thursday. Some denominations observe through Holy Saturday which is March 20.
This past week has been incredibly mild.

Waltham - Helen Perry

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.
We have been experiencing mild, spring like weather this past week. I wonder if our winter is over or will March come in like a lion and will we have winter like conditions throughout the month? God bless the people in the Maritimes, who have had their share of snow storms in the past week. We can count ourselves lucky.
Warm, belated birthday wishes are extended to Lysanne Bechamp, who celebrated her birthday on Feb. 11. We hope that you had a lovely birthday Lysanne.
Birthday wishes are extended to Frankie Turner, who is celebrating his birthday on Feb. 16. Enjoy your special day Frankie.
Gerard Pharand is celebrating a birthday on Feb. 17, enjoy your special day, Gerard.
Birthday wishes and love is extended to my dear sister-in law of Pembroke, who is celebrating her birthday on Feb. 20. May the coming year be filled with health, happiness, love, peace and joy.
