Quyon - Jillian Young

Congratulations to Kenzie Smith from the Shawville Figure Skating Club on another successful competition this past Saturday. Kenzie came home with the bronze medal from the Regionals at the Slush Puppy Arena. Kenzie is the daughter of Leslie Stanton and Nathan Smith, and granddaughter of Ken and Diane Stanton. Well done to Kenzie and all of her fellow skaters from SFSC on their competition.
On Saturday, family and friends gathered throughout the afternoon and evening at the home of Christopher and Kara Provost to celebrate Chris’ 50th birthday. The birthday boy had no idea a party was in store for him until that morning, when decorations started going up and party prep began. He was thrilled to have so many of his friends and family stop in to wish him well on this milestone occasion.
Birthday wishes are going out to Kenny Fleck and Jaime Cote, both celebrating on Jan. 24, and to Lisa Nugent on the 26th. Happy birthday also to Sue Chabot on the 27th. Best wishes to everyone celebrating special occasions this week.
It was great to hear that most outdoor rinks in our area opened last week, including the Quyon rink, as well as the volunteer-run Beechgrove rink. It is great to have these rinks in our community to keep the kids entertained during these cold weather months. Be sure to get out and enjoy them, and be respectful of the hard work that many put in to keeping these rinks open and functioning.

Waltham - Helen Perry

Last Tuesday evening we attended our grandson Ben’s hockey game in Cobden. He plays on the Eastern Ontario Cobra Team. They played against the Upper Ottawa Valley Aces and won 4-1. It was nice to be able to attend the game as it wasn’t too far to travel.
The last couple of days the temperatures dipped with wind chills of -30. This is normal weather to expect in January. It is supposed to get milder in the next couple of days.
