Quyon - Jillian Young

Happy March break to all of the students, teachers, and staff who are enjoying their week off. I hope you all having a relaxing, fun break.
This past Saturday, the Quyon Lions Club hosted their annual curling bonspiel at the Shawville Curling Club. My mom and I spent the afternoon there watching, as we had several family members participating, and it was a terrific day as always. We had great visits and laughs with friends. Ray Johnston’s team were the big winners at the end of the day, and the 50/50 was won by Lynn Leach. Kudos to Glen Leach and his helpers for organizing, it is a great community event and enjoyed by many.
Birthday wishes are going out to Hollie Leach, Bill Young and Mackenzie Barr, all celebrating on Mar. 10. We also have birthday wishes going out to Faith Hamilton on the 12th.
The weather sure has been spring-like lately, and there’s an exciting sign of spring happening this week. The Quyon Ferry is projecting to open either this Thursday or Friday. It will be the earliest opening for the Quyon Ferry in history.
The ferry opening is perfect timing, as this coming weekend is a big one in Quyon with the big St. Pat’s celebrations taking place. The Quyon Legion will be hosting their annual St. Patty’s Day Kitchen Party on Sat. Mar. 9, starting at 2 p.m. Bring your instruments and join in the fun. There is no better way to kick off the St. Pat’s celebrations.
Then on Sunday, Gavan’s Hotel is the place to be, for the best St. Patrick’s Day party in the area. Musical entertainment will include Gail Gavan, Louis Schryer, The Daley Family and Friends, Virginia Schwartz and Friends, Pauline Brown Steppers, and many many more. It is always one of the best days of the year, with Gavan’s bursting at the seams with St. Pat’s revelers and everyone enjoying the luck o’ the Irish! You won’t want to miss it.

Shawville - Lyse Lacourse

The Pontiac Agricultural Society will be hosting a bingo on Wed. Mar. 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lifestyles Building at the Shawville Fairgrounds.
The fourth Sunday of Lent is this Sunday and is also called Laetare Sunday.
Happy birthday to Colleen Erwin Powell who will be celebrating her birthday on Mar. 5.
Happy birthday to our nephew Addison Lacourse who celebrates his birthday on Mar. 10.
Happy 66th birthday to my husband Robert Lacourse and Janey Duff MacDougall who will celebrate their birthdays on Mar. 11.

Waltham - Helen Perry

I sure hope that everyone weathered the wind storm that we experienced last Wednesday night. We lost power for about seven hours. With the amount of wind, I was sure that we were going to be out for a day or so. We were lucky.
I sure hope everyone is enjoying this spring like weather. It is supposed to be warm for the next two weeks.
Our heartfelt sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with the Graveline family of Vinton, in the recent passing of Donald “Donny” Francis Graveline.
On Saturday evening, we attended our granddaughter Mikaela’s dance recital. The dance routines, choreography and costumes were amazing. Hats off to the dancers and to their teachers for all their hard work and dedication.
John Romain is celebrating a birthday today Mar. 9. We hope it is a good one John.
This week, the school children in the Pontiac are on their March break, I hope they, along with the teachers, custodians and bus drivers enjoy some R&R. Stay safe.
Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before bed this coming Saturday night, as we spring ahead. It sure will be so nice to have the longer daylight.
