The Grand Calumet Island Recreational Committee rang in Fête nationale (Saint-Jean-Baptiste) Day in style with a summer festival this past Saturday.
A free-of-charge event held annually over the last few years, the summer festival showcased the hospitality and community spirit of Calumet Island. Billed as fun for all ages, the festivities boasted a cornucopia of activities.
For the children and the young-at-heart, a selection of homemade, carnival style games could be enjoyed. The event’s two florescent bouncy castles saw constant use, with no evidence that the humidity of the day was dampening anyone’s enjoyment.
The Grand Calumet Island fire department was on hand interacting with event-goers and showcasing some of their firefighting equipment.
Car lovers from throughout the Pontiac came out to admire the show’s collection of old and new vehicles. Games of BINGO and The Price Is Right rounded out the day’s activities.
Musical entertainment was provided by Martin Duford, Maxime de Wilde and Phil Denault.
“It’s important to bring people out. It’s the beginning of summer holidays for kids and it gives people something to do as a community,” said Tyler La Salle, President of Grand Calumet Island Recreational Committee.
“At the same time, it’s a way for us to give something back to the community and say ‘thank you’ for the support and for everything they do to support us throughout the year,” he said.
