Quyon: Jill Young

I hope all of the children in our area had a great March break last week. I was happy to spend time with my nieces and nephews during the week. The weather was great for some winter fun before the . . .

snow all melts away. I hope they all enjoyed it, whether they travelled or stayed close to home.
There was some exciting news for students and staff at Onslow School recently. It was announced that the school is one of the lucky recipients of $12,000 in musical instruments and equipment from MusiCounts. They were among the 90 schools across the country to receive this funding. This will go a long way at Onslow and it is wonderful news for all involved.
On Saturday, a birthday party was held at Pine Lodge in honour of Ivan Nitschke. Ivan was surrounded by family as he celebrated his 65th. Happy birthday Ivan!
Also on Saturday, a surprise party was held at the Quyon Legion for Roger and Claire Dubois as they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Best wishes to Roger and Claire on this milestone occasion.
Happy birthday to Faith Hamilton as she turns 12 on March 12 and to Maddox and Zayden Alexander who are turning two on March 13. Special birthday wishes are going out to Donna Provost, also on March 13, with love from her grandchildren, Caden, Danica, Tristan, and Kane. Happy birthday to Ellard Kennedy on March 15 and to Ryan Woermke on March 17. Blessings to everyone celebrating this week.
Our sympathies to the family of Helena Beattie as she passed away on March 1 at the age of 81. Condolences to her daughter Kelena McDowell and all of her loved ones.
This coming weekend will be a big weekend in Quyon as the town prepares to go green. The St. Patrick’s Day festivities begin on March 14, kicking off with the annual Irish Tea hosted by the young women of the Quyon Pastoral Charge. Join us for sandwiches, squares and tea, as we bring out the fine china. We will also be raffling off a giant Basket O’ Irish Fun, overflowing with green items and goods. The tea will be held in the Quyon United Church basement from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and all are welcome.
On Saturday afternoon, the Legion will be hosting their annual Irish Kitchen Party a perfect chance to enjoy great local musicians and lots of fun. Bring your instruments, wear your green and have a great time. Then on Sunday Gavan’s is the place to be, as always, Gail Gavan will be the hostess with a day full of Irish entertainment scheduled for the main stage. Nick may have retired but the party still lives on, and you don’t want to miss it. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all.
